How to Choose the Right Toys for Your Dog

June 3, 2022

When it comes to choosing the right toys for your mini Aussie - Ontario or any dog for that matter, there are a few things you need to take into consideration.

First, you need to think about what your dog likes to do. Do they like to chew on things? Play fetch? Or just lounge around? Once you know what your dog likes to do, you can start to narrow down your options.

Picking out a new toy for your dog may seem like a daunting task. With so many options on the market, how do you know which one is right for your pup?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the best Aussiedoodle toy.

What Are the Choices?

Chewable Toys

If your dog likes to chew on things, then you'll want to look for a toy that is durable and will withstand a lot of chewing. A good option for a chewer is a rubber toy, like a Kong. Kongs are made of tough rubber that is designed to stand up to a lot of wear and tear.

Another option for a chewer is a Nylabone. Nylabones are excellent because they are durable. We recommend staying away from the flavored variety as the flavoring may not be safe for your puppy.

A word about avoiding rawhide-type dog toys

Rawhide is a popular type of chew toy, but it's important to be aware that it can pose a choking hazard. If you decide to give your dog a rawhide bone, be sure to supervise them while they are chewing it.

A good option for a chewable is free-range bully sticks. Puppies and dogs love them and they are very safe when it comes to chewing.

A chewable that should be avoided for puppies is Beef trachea. Pieces of this treat that are chewed off can be sharp and can cause internal damage or even death.

Tug Toys

If your mini Aussie - Ontario likes to play tug-of-war, then a tug toy is a great option. Tug toys are usually made of a sturdy rope or fabric and have a loop at one end that you can hold on to.

The other end is meant for your dog to grab onto and pull. Be sure to choose a tug toy that is the appropriate size for your dog. You don't want it to be too small, as your dog could choke on it,

Toys for Fetching

The number one choice for a fun game of fetch is the Chuckit ball. They come in different sizes to suit your dog or puppy size and they are very durable. They are appropriate for use in the house and outside.

Another option for a fetch toy is a tennis ball. Tennis balls are great because they are easy to throw and most dogs love the way they smell. Make sure you pick them up after so your puppy or dog doesn’t chew the fuzz off of them.

Toys for Lounging

If your dog just likes to lounge around, then you'll want to look for a toy that is soft and cuddly. A stuffed animal is a great option for a lounge toy. Stuffed animals come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you're sure to find one that your dog will love. Make sure it is made for a puppy so it doesn’t have eyes or things that can be chewed off and swallowed by accident.

Why Dogs Like Squeaky Toys

Squeaky toys are a popular choice for dogs because they mimic the sound of a wounded animal. This sound is instinctual for dogs and compels them to play.

Squeaky toys are a great option for dogs that like to chew, as they are usually made of a soft material that is perfect for chewing.

What to Consider?

Durability

No matter what type of toy you are looking for, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, make sure the toy is made of a durable material that can withstand a lot of wear and tear.

Right Size

Make sure the toy is the appropriate size for your dog. A toy that is too small can be a choking hazard, and a toy that is too big can be a safety hazard.

Safety

When choosing a new toy for your mini Aussie - Ontario, it is important to always keep safety in mind. Make sure the toy is made of safe material and is the appropriate size for your dog.

If you are unsure about the safety of a particular toy, it is always best to err on the side of caution and choose a different toy.

Fun

When choosing a new toy for your dog, make sure to pick one that is going to be fun for them to play with. Toys that bounce, roll, squeak and make noises are always a hit with dogs.

Choose a toy that your dog is going to enjoy playing with and that will keep them entertained for hours on end.

Do dogs really need toys?

While dogs certainly don't need toys to be happy, they can provide a lot of enjoyment for your pup. Toys are a great way to keep your dog entertained and can help them to stay healthy and active.

How many toys should my dog have?

There is no set number of toys that your dog should have. It is a good idea to have a few different types of toys on hand, so your dog always has something new to play with.

When should I get my dog a new toy?

You can get your dog a new toy at any time. If you notice that your dog is starting to lose interest in their current toys, a new toy may be just what they need to stay entertained.

Should you give dogs plush toys?

Plush toys are a great option for dogs who enjoy a soft, cuddly toy. Just make sure to choose a plush toy that is the appropriate size for your dog and that is made of durable material. Durability means that the toy can withstand a lot of chewing and playing.

Where can I find the best toys for my dog?

The best place to find the best toys for your dog is at your local pet store. Pet stores carry a wide variety of different types of toys, so you're sure to find something that your pup will love. You can also find a great selection of dog toys online.

What happens when I don't provide my dog with any toys?

If you don't provide your dog with any toys, they may find their own. Dogs are very creative and will often come up with their own ways to play. This can include chewing on items they find around the house, taking Kleenex out of the trash, or playing tug-of-war with a shoe.

Providing your dog with a variety of different types of toys is a great way to keep them entertained and out of trouble.

So, what type of toy is right for your mini Aussie - Ontario?

First, consider your dog's size and personality. Not all toys are suitable for every dog. Smaller dogs may not be able to handle a large, bouncy ball, while a more aggressive dog may prefer a toy that can be chewed on and played with aggressively.

Next, think about what kinds of activities your dog enjoys. If your pup loves to play fetch, a Chuckit ball is a great option.

If your dog likes to chew, look for a tough toy that can stand up to some serious gnawing. Chewable toys are a great option for dogs that like to chew on things. Tug toys are a great option for dogs that like to play tug-of-war and fetch.

And if your dog just likes to lounge around, a stuffed animal or a toy with a squeaker is the perfect toy. Just make sure to always keep safety in mind when choosing a new toy for your pup.

Finally, take into account your own lifestyle and budget. Some toys are more expensive than others, and some require more maintenance than others.

If you travel frequently, a plush toy may not be the best option, as it will likely get left behind in a hotel room. Similarly, if you have a small budget, a simple rubber Chuckit ball may be a better choice than a more elaborate toy.

By taking all of these factors into consideration, you can narrow down your options and choose the perfect toy for your mini Aussie in Ontario. It all depends on what your dog enjoys doing. If your dog likes to chew, then a rubber toy or a Nylabone is a good option.
